Enjoyed the workbench tips and tricks. i recently made bench dogs as suggested with two differences. 1) i used a small modeling saw to saw the 1/8" groove instead of a table saw kerf and a knife to clean out the waste. 2} i used sweet gum bark instead of rubber screen retainer and glued it in with hide glue.. Making a bench is a big undertaking, but fortunately most of the work involved is fairly routine. the base of this bench is four big legs joined to the rails between them with mortise-and-tenons. shiplapped boards set between the lower rails provide a nice place for storing jigs and anything else you like to keep close by.. Shazam! fasten your bench-top tools to your workbench in seconds. bolt 3/4-in. plywood bases on the tools and then glue and screw a wood strip along the front edge to fit into a woodworking vise. crank this strip into a vise to lock the tool into place.. Instead of permanently mounting my 6-in. vise to a work-bench, i attached it to scrap plywood so i can clamp it wherever i need it. stack two pieces of 3/4-in. plywood and screw them together with 1-1/4 in. drywall screws. mark the vise-mounting holes on the plywood and drill 3/4-in. guide holes through both pieces..
